How did we get here? – Introducing Nomad Business Solutions’ team

September 18, 2023

We are Katlin and Marie. We own and run Nomad Business Solutions. A business dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and business owners achieve their dreams of expanding throughout Europe with ease.

Earlier years

We were born and grew up on the small island of Saaremaa. The largest island in Estonia, famous for, among other things, its lush terrain and also a meteor crater!

At High School, I was convinced that I wanted to get into journalism or, at the very least, become a writer. Marie knew early on that she wanted to be in business for herself. That was something we both had in common. A desire to achieve greatness.

We met fifteen years ago through a mutual friend. One month after High School graduation, we both moved to England to study business at the University of Birmingham. We moved to a city which is home to more people than the whole of Estonia. That still fascinates me to this day. Moving to England to study was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is such a diverse and interesting country, which really encourages entrepreneurship.

While we were studying in England the whole Brexit referendum affected the world around us. Now I’m not going to get into the debate of who was right or wrong, but Marie and I were immigrants. We were living and studying in the UK, so were naturally worried about our futures there. More of how this came to mind when we were starting Nomad Business Solutions later.

Estonia's e-residency and EU company registration enable entrepreneurs to establish an EU-based company, which simplifies logistics, enables easy access to EU customers, and ensures compliance with EU regulations.

Travels

Once we graduated, I moved out to Australia. My sister lives in Sydney, and it had felt like a lifetime since I’d last seen her.

Marie had arrived in Australia a few weeks before me, wanting to explore and make the world her next university. She was fascinated by how different countries do business.

Marie had some excellent adventures. She once drove with friends all the way from Melbourne to Perth in five days. Over two thousand miles and a thirty-seven-hour drive away! While driving through the Outback their car broke down. They were in the middle of nowhere and had to walk many miles to the nearest village as it was a Sunday. They had to find a place to stay and get the car fixed the next day. A real Australian adventure!

While in Australia, we met up in Perth to live for a while. We even began a small business there. We bought, fixed up and sold cars. It was a great money maker and showed that we could work well together. Which we knew anyway, but this had proved it.

Starting Nomad Business Solutions

When returning to Estonia after the second year of university, we found out about Estonia’s E-Residency program that had been launched two years prior.

I remember us talking about our time at university. Our minds turned to the effects of Brexit. As we were studying business when it happened, we were very aware that it would extensively change the way that UK-based businesses would be able to trade within the EU and throughout the world.

Seeing a problem in one country that was very close to our hearts and the solution in our motherland, it was like the stars and planets had aligned.

What if we introduced entrepreneurs, not just in the UK, but the all over the world, to register their business virtually in Estonia through the program?

It is an amazing tool and would benefit businesses large, small and anywhere in between.

Knowing each other as well as we do, we understood instantly the roles we would take on if we were going to do this.

We love supporting businesses and are truly passionate about helping entrepreneurs across the world gain/regain access to the EU free market.

Furthermore, we love our home country Estonia more than anything and we will never get tired of shouting about it from the rooftops.

Growing up in this amazing digital nation and with the experience of our travels has given us a very good overview of how different countries operate.

And nobody does it like Estonia.

With e-residency and EU company registration, entrepreneurs gain access to Estonia's advanced digital infrastructure a tech-savvy workforce, and a supportive ecosystem for innovation

Our aim with this business is to give out the tools, expertise and advice to fellow business owners. To be able to strive higher and further than they could ever have dreamed of. Whether it is growing their business to the EU free market, getting a digital EU identity or saving money on taxes.

Whatever it is that we can do to support other businesses we do it!
